About the Author

 

Devorah Heitner is a media historian and educator. She started out researching Sesame Street and its approach to anti-racist representation. After immersing herself in the research on kids and media, she spent the next five years researching and writing this history of Black public affairs TV. She is currently focused on digital citizenship and leading Raising Digital Natives.

Before founding Raising Digital Natives, Devorah taught at the Spertus Museum, the Better Boys Foundation, Street Level Youth Media, Northwestern University and DePaul University. Her scholarly writing and research about media history can be found in journals and online.  She earned a PhD in Media, Technology and Society from Northwestern University.
